About work
This skullcap, made on the basis of a combination of red and green colors, is popularly called the “Iraqi skullcap”. The reason for this is the way it is sewn: the fabric (surp) is made with embroidery threads stretched out and woven into a net, and a thin colored thread is stitched. The stitch on it resembles the letter “X” of the Latin alphabet. The lining is sewn to the wrong side, and the upper and lower parts are combined. To make the kizag (middle) part more decorative, a green jiyak (narrow braid decorated with various patterns) is sewn onto its lower part. The ornaments "scorpion" and "shapkilich" are imprinted on the surface.
