About work
The skullcap is made of a combination of white, green, red and blue colors and is popularly called the “Iraqi skullcap”. The reason for this is in the sewing method: the fabric (surp) is made from embroidered threads and woven into a net, with a colored thin thread. The stitch on it resembles the letter “X” of the Latin alphabet. Patterns are sewn on the inside, and the upper and lower parts are interconnected. For greater decorativeness, a kizak (middle of a skullcap) is sewn onto its lower part with a green djiyak (a narrow strip decorated with various patterns). The surface is printed with a scorpion flower and a horned sword ornament.
